VocaLinks offers the latest technologies for reading, computers and adaptive vision aids designed specifically to help people with low vision or blindness access information, including everything from screen readers for blind individuals or magnifiers for low-vision computer users, video magnifiers and other devices for reading and writing with low vision.
Assistive Technology for People with Vision Loss
Screen reading software such as JAWS software from Freedom Scientific, converts on-screen text - whatever you are writing or reading - into synthesized speech. Ideal for blind computer users JAWS provides speech and Braille output for the most popular computer applications on your PC. Ai Squared's ZoomText Fusion Pro is designed for users with advanced or progressive vision loss. It provides the features and benefits of ZoomText Magnifier/Reader, plus a complete screen reader.
ImageReaders and OCR
OCR (optical character recognition) systems translate handwritten, typewritten or printed text (usually captured by a scanner) into synthesized speech or machine-editable text. VocaLinks delivers standalone ImageReaders including the ZoomText ImageReader, desk-top units (Optelec ClearView C Flex with Speech) or software programs such as ClaroRead or Kurzweil 1000 that run on a computer and connect to any high-quality document scanner.
Speech Recognition Software
Speech Recognition software lets you talk to your computer, which then turns your speech into on-screen text. For people with low vision narrative dictation using Dragon Professional Individual can relieve the eye strain of keyboarding and viewing the computer screen with the additional productivity gains afforded by professional speech-to-text solutions.
These programs make everything on your computer screen larger for easier viewing. Usually a program will allow you to choose from a number of enlargement sizes according to your needs. ZoomText products from AI Squared offer several popular software versions.
Mathematical Word Processing
Mathematical Word Processors enable the creation of attractive documents that contain text, mathematics, and graphics. Combine with Dragon Professional Individual with our MathTalk/Scientific Notebook Bundle to facilitates teaching, learning, exploring, and communicating mathematics.
Large Print Keyboards
Designed for anyone who struggles to see the lettering on their keyboard, large-print keyboards make typing faster and easier than ever before. Available for Windows and Mac.
Alternatively large print keyboard stickers can be an economical and easy way to create a high visibility keyboard with oversized letters on a standard PC keyboard. Each key and button label is easy to see, even in low light, thanks to its 36-point text and choice of high-contrast color schemes.
Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) and the next generation pocket-sized devices called video magnifiers allow users to magnify anything placed under a camera unit. A monitor will display a greatly enhanced image of what the camera picks up. VocaLinks carries large desktop units such as the ClearView C line of magnifiers as well as smaller hand-held units including the Compact +HD Video Magnifier.
While not specifically designed for individuals with low vision the C-Pen Reader Pen Scanner is a portable, pocket-sized, handheld device that reads printed text aloud. Ideal for scanning and reading on the go. No computer required.
Duxbury Braille Translation Software (DBT) is known for its ease of use and accurate translation, and is the worldwide leader for text (print) to Braille translations, Braille editing, formatting, production, publishing and related tasks.
